Briony is on her HSC journey

Briony is in her HSC year and one of her electives is visual art. Last Tuesday John and I went to see the year 12 HSC visual arts exhibition held at the school. I was very impressed with the quality of the work!

Each artist provided an interpretive statement of their work. Briony's describes her collection of paintings (not all pictured):

"The encompassing concept for my body of work is of the girl represented through the series, and her passivity. Her situation is outside of her control, yet she does not panic. The octopuses represent negative emotions (depression, isolation), whilst the fish, representing positive aspects of life such as family, creativity and hope for the future, guard her form and lift her towards the surface and the light. The works in which there are no fish represent the nadirs we can reach; however, the final triptych is one of hope, as the girl and the fishes leave the octopus alone in the depths."

Body art on live canvas

I asked Briony to ask her boyfriend Nelson whether I was allowed to post this beautiful photo on our blog and Briony says Lord Nelson says it's OK :-)

Briony had been practising her body art on his willing canvas.

It's so lovely when daughters have good, loving, amenable boyfriends. Nelson is good company, he is charitable and supportive and it's a delight to have him visit. And he makes our Briony happy :-)

Tess spent the night with her dear and lovely friend Bonnie, who had a small bunch of friends over for a birthday sleep-over.

They got creative.

Body Art by the Bonfire

Anjes has just arrived home again, and what better way to celebrate than a good bonfire. Briony (body artist extraordinaire) had some great new body paints that she and I were keen to try out. Hans and John had some superb curry recipes. Britt had some new songs to try out. Toby had some hugs to dispense. The Tree (you know, The Tree) beckoned climbing sprites, somersaulting youths and laughter hidden among the leaves.
So friends and family were invited and bonfire was lit, bodies painted, wonderful curries tasted, and young voices soared under the crystal clear stars.
In the morning there were farm-fresh scrambled eggs cooked on the hotplate; pancakes baked on the open fire by Yarrow; a brumby mare to be tried out; sweet custard apples; and The Tree with climbing sprites, somersaulting youths and much laughter heard hidden among the leaves.
Afternoon somehow nudged us to the beach for swimming and fishing and ballgames ... Hot fish and chips to finish the day.
